Rose flowers as technical raw
material – is this a contradiction?
No, because roses are really
helpful in private and larger
public gardens. But to call them
ground cover roses reduces their
characteristics to just one. They
are more. Their main task is to
cover the ground with their dense
branches and foliage and to protect
it against weeds and erosion.
But this can be done by others,
less expensive than rose plants.
But none other combines the pleasant
and the useful with more charme and
beauty than roses. With their abundance of
flowers they create on the green a real rose carpet.
In ground cover roses birds can hide from cats, in winter as in summer. Their shape of flowers is as different as their growth habit: fully doubled balls, open cups, cups of fife heart-shaped petals and many others. We like ground cover roses even in single plantation, in beds, on slopes or in a bed of heath. Very vigorous varieties as ‘Immensee’, ‘Heidekönigin’ or ‘Maronod’ can even be planted as climbing rose if branches are bend high.
Planting information:
As this group combines varieties of different growth habit and height they need different planting distances too. We have divided the varieties in 4 different groups to give you a better idea of planting distances:
