A warm evening in June- this is the
right time to take a walk in the rose
garden. Perfumes will grow and go
by as the smoke of a cigarette.
The shrub rose 'Rosenresli' fill the
air with a scent, which will make
it impossible for us to forget
this moment, this half an
hour in the rose garden.
Literally all roses are shrub
roses, but for us these are
larger bushes than their sisters, the
Floribundas and Hybrid Teas. They are higher
and wider and vigorous varieties can reach a
height of 2 m when planted in a good location.
Most of the shrub roses are very bushy and stout and they can withstand every storm. Some have more delicate laterals which should be attached. They flower – like Floribundas and Hybrid Teas – until late in autumn and their shape of flower is similar.
Lower shrubs will showcase against the dark green of evergreen wood or fill niches in the garden. These natural, sturdy and frost-resistant bushes are also recommended as hedgerows and bird protection plants.
Deep red and yellow are the strong colours of shrub roses and they bring light and life into every garden. Shrub roses are very frost-resistant. If a strong winter with lots of sun and cold winds leads to frozen branches, a shrub rose will sprout again and will flower even more beautiful than in the year before. But you do not have to wait for a strong winter – just cut the shrub every four to five years.
Planting information: It is nearly impossible to give general information concerning the planting distance, because of the great difference in growth and height of shrub roses. For narrow planting distances of 50 cm, for single plantation distances up to 2 m is sufficient, for very vigorous roses planting distance may be 1 m up to 3 m.
